Before the God of Love was Born By Paul Broadfield

Try to remember twenty years ago: think about the mobile phone. Double the power, halve the size and halve the price every five years. And after 500 years – is your maths up for it? Don’t carry the most powerful machines imaginable in your pocket, exposing them to damage and loss: implant them before birth. These people of the future will seem like magicians or gods. But will they be able to hang on to it? History suggests not – it’s sure to go wrong. The world is in a mess. Jed Brown, rapidly approaching the responsibilities of adulthood would prefer not to know – but his father has different ideas. For a person who declines even the possession of opinions because of the heavy responsibilities that they bring, the idea that he has to personally sort out this mess is a bit of a nightmare. There are compensations, mainly in the form of the women he meets. But try as he might, things never go right for Jed. This is after all: Before the God of Love was Born.
